(기자 수첩) 2024년 1월 2일 오전 10시 27분경, 부산 강서구 가덕도에서 우리나라 의전서열 8위인 야당 대표가 목에 칼이 찔렸다.
당시 영상을 보면 알겠지만, 가해자 김모(1957年生, 男)씨가 살해의 의도로 이 대표의 목을 칼로 찌르는, 매우 잔인한 상황이다.
특히 김모씨가 공격을 가할 때 들렸던 사운드(Sound)는 평생 잊을 수 없을 듯하다.
공격 이후 김모씨는 즉시 제압됐고 이재명 대표는 목을 잡고 쓰러졌다.
이 대표가 쓰러져 있는 바닥 밑으로 피가 흘렀다.
정치적 입장을 떠나 너무나 안타까운 일이다.

이후 아래 ‘참고 1’과 ‘참고 2’와 같은, 이 사건 관련 요약 메시지가 인터넷에서 검색됐다.
그래서 조선일보 등 여러 매체들의 기사와 인터넷 커뮤니티들의 글을 읽어보니 ‘참고 2’는 경찰에서 발송한 메시지라고 한다(‘참고 1’의 출처는 확인 중이다).
그리고 여기에 이번 사건에서 가장 큰 역할을 했던 ‘열상‘이라는 단어가 등장한다.
이하 두 개의 메시지의 원문은 아래와 같다.

정말 궁금한 것은 ‘왜 열상이라는 단어가 사용했는가’이다.
일반적으로 ‘목 부위를 과도로 찌른’과 ‘열상’은 쉽게 어울리는 표현이 아니다.
이후 당연히 조사를 통해 사실관계가 밝혀지겠지만, 아무튼 이 ‘열상’이라는 단어 때문에, 유튜브를 비롯한 온라인에 난리가 났다.
이 단어를 그대로 옮긴 언론사 기자들도 많은 욕을 먹어야 했다.
평소 ‘열상’과 ‘자상’의 의미를 잘 알지 못했던 사람들도 친절한 유튜버들의 설명으로 이번 사건을 ‘자작극’으로 해석하며, 피해자인 이재명 대표에게 욕을 해댔다.
“칼에 찔렸다면서, 열상이래… 자작극이네”, “열상? 나무 젓가락이나 종이로 찌른 거 아냐?”, “열상으로 헬기 이송…?”, “열상 정도로 부산대병원에서 서울대병원으로 전원?” 등등
사실 열상은 두 가지 의미로 사용되나, 유튜버들은 이 중 하나(아래 첫 번째)의 의미만 설명했다.
구체적으로 첫 번째 열상(熱傷, Burn, Scald)은, 모두가 아는 바와 같이, “온도가 높은 기체, 액체, 고체, 화염 등에 데었을 때 일어나는 피부 손상”이다.
그리고 두 번째 열상(裂傷, Laceration)은 “피부가 찢어져서 생긴 상처(찢긴 상처)”이다.
물론, 두 번째의 열상도 일반적으로 “칼과 같이 날카롭고 예리한 물건으로 찔린 상처”와 친(親, Friendly)한 단어는 아니다.
왜냐하면, 이런 상처는 일반적으로 자상(刺傷, Stab)이나 자창(刺創, Stab or Sting)이라 하기 때문이다.

Since then, summary on the case, such as ‘Reference 1’ and ‘Reference 2’ below, were found on the Internet. So, after reading articles from various media such as the Chosun Ilbo and posts from internet communities, ‘Reference 2’ is presumed to be a message sent by the police.
And here the word ‘laceration’ appeared, which played the biggest role in this incident.

What I’m really curious about is ‘Why was the word laceration used?’
In general, the expressions ‘stabbed in the neck with a knife’ and ‘lacerated’ do not easily go together.
Of course, the facts will be revealed later through an investigation, but in any case, the word ‘laceration’ caused an uproar online, including YouTube.
Journalists who copied this word also suffered a lot of criticism.
Even people who were not familiar with the meaning of ‘laceration’ and ‘stab wound’ interpreted this incident as a play on the explanations of friendly YouTubers, and cursed at Lee Jae-myung, the victim of this incident.
For example, People said, “He was stabbed, and it was a laceration… It’s a self-made play”, “Lacerations? Did someone stab him with wooden chopsticks or paper?”, “He was transported by helicopter because of a laceration…?”, “He was transferred to Seoul National University Hospital because of a laceration? Is he ignoring Pusan National University Hospital?” .
In fact, laceration is used in two senses, but YouTubers only explained one of these meanings (the first one below).
Specifically, the first one (熱傷, Burn, Scald), as we all know, is “damage to the skin caused by being scalded by hot gases, liquids, solids, flames, etc.”
And the second one (裂傷, Laceration) is a “wound caused by a tear in the skin.”
Of course, the second laceration is not typically associated with “a cut made with a sharp object such as a knife.”
Because these wounds are generally called stab wounds (刺傷).
